This is the report as presented to Pyons Group Parish Council on 8th September.
Traffic Calming in Canon Pyon
As reported to the chairman and clerk, the traffic calming within the village which was scheduled for September has had to be slipped slightly into October. However this has meant that we are more confident that the whole of the works can be undertaken (councillors will remember that we were able to bring this work forward by considering taking it in parts), and so I am optimistic that by the end of October we can mark these long-awaited works complete. As previously noted, this delay was always a possibility – I had put a lot of pressure on officers to ensure that this (along with Weobley) were in the very first tranche of works after we were able to reboot the programme county wide. Officers will also be available to train the parish council on how to operate the Speed Indication Devices that are being supplied.
Section 19 report into flooding in Canon Pyon
Despite the initial section 19 report being sufficiently problematic that I sent it back to be redone, I’ve raised with officers the fact that the report still has material errors. As a consequence, I anticipate a meeting will be happening shortly between drainage officers, parish councillors, and myself to ensure that the report is corrected to the extent that it can be adopted.
Derndale road surface dressing
Was completed in August. It is notable that the reminder of the stretch towards Wellington is now also to be done, after pressure by me and the ward councillor for Wellington.
Drainage around Kinford Cross, the U93419, and Lower Derndale Drainage,
As noted in my last report, I am awaiting the results of the investigation of the blocked drainage around Kinford Cross, and acknowledgement of the responsibility. HCC officers are aware of the ditching requirements nearer the village, and I continue to put pressure on council officers to assist with the problems that the Parish Council has encountered with completing the drainage in Lower Derndale (and specifically helping with the watercourse consent).
Westhope Hill Drainage
I am awaiting further details on this work (both the resolution of the drainage down the hill as far as Chapel Lane, where the skid risk is greatest, and also the installation of a spring trap further down, at the Spout. I had hoped to have confirmed details – this has been escalated to very senior officers in light of the continued delays.
CEO Visit
Herefordshire Council has a new Chief Executive, Paul Satoor – he will be joining me for a tour of the ward in November.
